As a therapist specializing in treatment of individuals with Substance Abuse issues and behavioral challenges, Christina enjoys working with clients from all walks of life with difficult, traumatic histories. In 2013, after serving as the Director of Odyssey House’s Adolescent Services for four years, Christina joined the administrative team as the Director of Clinical Operations.
In this role, Christina helps set the agency clinical direction and continues promoting Odyssey House’s commitment to providing high quality and affordable behavioral health services to all those in need. In her free time, Christina enjoys hiking and skiing with her family in the mountains near her Salt Lake City home.
Michael Desjardins, APRN PMHNP-BC
Journey Healing Centers, Utah
Michael Desjardins APRN PMHNP-BH is a board- certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He has extensive education, training, and experience treating substance abuse and psychiatric disorders in adults, adolescents, and children.
He completed his graduate training at the University of Utah where he was selected as a Linda K. Amos Leadership Fellow two years in a row, studying Advanced Health Care Administration and Leadership concurrently while completing his Psychiatric APRN with Dr. Amos the senior Vice President of Health Sciences at the University of Utah.
Michael has extensive experience providing substance abuse and mental health treatment in multiple settings including inpatient and outpatient treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals and substance abuse detoxification facilities. He was the Director of Behavioral Medicine for a local division of the largest hospital corporation in the world, managing inpatient psychiatric facilities and detoxification services within a full-service hospital. Michael remains active professionally and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Nursing and Nursing Quarterly Forum.
Michael has a strong commitment to implementation of evidenced-based care. In this respect, he recently devoted professional time to a variety of research projects focusing on the neuroscience of addiction and psychiatric disorders at the University of Utah Brain Institute, as a Co-Investigator in the Dr. Renshaw Laboratory; a Spectroscopy Lab, utilizing advanced MRI techniques to study the effects drugs have on the brain and exploring novel treatments to aid in neuronal repair and treatment.
Michael has extensive experience treating addictions as well as co-occurring psychiatric and mental health disorders. He currently works at a residential treatment center, in an inpatient detoxification center, and at an outpatient mental health clinic. Michael brings his unique experience and knowledge of the brain, psychopharmacology, detoxification protocols and evidenced-based treatment to Journey Healing Centers. He provides excellence in treatment for challenging and complex cases.
Michael believes in client-centered care, and he engages each client with dignity and respect in the formation of their own unique treatment plan, focusing on health, wellness and recovery from addictions.
Executive Director, Men's Program
Benchmark Recovery Center
Jason Chane is the Executive Director for the men’s program at the Benchmark Recovery Center, mentoring clients, leading groups, and overseeing the daily operations of the men’s program.
Jason is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the State of Texas, a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) in the state of Florida, has ADC Certifications in the state of Texas and Florida, as well as an ICADC International Counselor Certification. Jason also holds a B.A. from Trinity University. Jason has worked in the chemical dependency field since 2008. Prior to his current position, Jason worked as a Program Director at Mark Houston Recovery Center (Benchmark) and as a counselor at a treatment center in Florida.
Jason’s powerful experience with and passion for the twelve steps and his joy for life creates the ultimate recovery culture found at BRC. His personal interests include adventurous outdoor activities and sports. Jason is also dedicated to his yoga practice.
Douglas J. Edwards, MBA

Douglas J. Edwards is Publisher of Addiction Professional, having formerly served as editor in chief of Behavioral Healthcare and Addiction Professional. Edwards has been serving the addiction treatment community since 2000 in multiple editorial and marketing roles. Edwards will serve as moderator of the discussion.
