Amelia Merz, MD, a staff psychiatrist at the Minnesota Veterans Hospital, has been named medical director at PRIDE Institute, the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based addiction treatment provider specializing in services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Merz will take over this month for Jon Grant, MD, who served as PRIDE Institute’s medical director for eight years.

Merz completed her medical residency at PRIDE Institute, which operates a 42-bed freestanding facility and has graduated more than 14,000 LGBT individuals. An assistant professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Merz also previously served as chair of mental health at Park Nicollet Health Services.

The scope of Merz’s work at PRIDE Institute will encompass numerous areas that include detox protocols, medication monitoring, counseling, and mental health services, among other roles, according to a news release from the facility.
