The American Academy of HIV Medicine Institute for Hepatitis C and the American College of Physicians have released a guide to assist clinicians in screening patients for hepatitis C. The guide's availability was announced on the week in which Hepatitis Testing Day (May 19) was commemorated.

The Guide to Hepatitis C Testing includes a summary of testing recommendations, diagnostic and billing codes, and resources for referral to providers with expertise in hepatitis C treatment. The guide is available free of charge on the academy website.

“We know there is widespread uncertainty out there among providers about whom to test and with what labs, and how to get reimbursed,” said Margaret Hoffman-Terry, MD, director of the academy's Institute for Hepatitis C. “We hope this new resource will give clinicians the information they need to ramp up testing for hepatitis C.”
