A bill that would require warning labels about gambling risk on Florida lottery tickets is progressing through the state House of Representatives, with a favorable committee vote last week.
The Associated Press reported that Republican State Rep. Jennifer Sullivan believes that government-sanctioned lotteries should incorporate the same type of warnings found on cigarette packaging. Under her bill, lottery tickets would include the language “Warning: Gambling can be addictive.”
A companion bill in the state Senate has not yet been considered. Sullivan's proposal would take effect next year.
