The Retreat at Lancaster County (Pa.) has announced that Joseph Troncale, MD, has been named medical director of the organization, which is adding an outpatient and intensive outpatient services location in Palm Beach County, Fla. Troncale was an Addiction Professional Outstanding Clinicians Award winner in 2010, honored for his work as medical director and subsequently senior physician at Caron Treatment Centers.

Troncale is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and is board-certified in family medicine. He retired from Caron in 2009 and joined Lancaster General Hospital, where he had started as medical director of a dual-diagnosis unit in the 1990s.

At Caron he ushered in use of buprenorphine for opioid detoxification services, and shepherded the growth of psychiatric staff at the treatment organization. His lecture for patients and family members on the lizard brain became a signature talk in the organization.
