Promises Treatment Centers has launched Professionals Treatment at Promises, a comprehensive, client-centered drug and alcohol treatment program for professionals (including physicians, attorneys, airline pilots and other licensed professionals) as well as adults looking for this type of high-quality care.
Professionals Treatment at Promises is modeled to be congruent with state physician health programs, with a unique emphasis on early referral, sophisticated evaluation, and active long-term monitoring and care management. In a private, serene setting in West Los Angeles, clients receive highly personalized care from a team of specialists that understand the unique challenges and needs of addicted professionals.
“Physician health programs have evolved into one of the most successful models of recovery management,” said Greg Skipper, MD, the Director of Professional Health Services at Promises. “By applying the same core principles in Professionals Treatment at Promises, we have designed a program that helps professionals preserve their lives, careers and reputations as they work toward lifelong sobriety.”
Professionals Treatment at Promises provides the full spectrum of care, from detox and comprehensive evaluations to residential, day treatment and extended care. The program features:
- Thorough evaluations based on validated diagnostic criteria
- Individual psychotherapy and group therapy (including addiction education, relapse prevention, process groups and gender-specific groups)
- Profession-specific process groups, support groups and self-help meetings
- In-Site Therapy (volunteer opportunities in local healthcare facilities)
- Treatment of co-occurring addictive behaviors and mental health issues
- Practice assessments and return to work schedules
- Transition planning and continuing care
- Long-term monitoring and drug screening
Treatment is divided into two phases: stabilization and introduction to recovery, and advanced recovery skills. A unique feature of Professionals Treatment at Promises is that drug testing, utilizing the same company and procedure they’ll utilize upon returning home, begins long before the client returns home, allowing the staff to assess compliance and the client to get familiarized with testing protocols and monitoring practices. Clients have weekly consultations with Dr. Skipper to discuss progress, goals and transition planning.
Dr. Skipper has more than three decades of leadership experience developing professional health programs. He is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also a member of the National Advisory Council for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (appointed by the secretary of Health and Human Services) and a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and Drug Abuse Advisory Committee.
“Promises has over 20 years of experience treating professionals and executives who struggle with drug and alcohol addictions and co-occurring issues,” said Jamie Deans, the Professionals Program Manager at Promises. “Professionals Treatment at Promises draws on this expertise and the extraordinary knowledge and insights of Dr. Skipper to produce excellent outcomes for our clients.”
