New online resources from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) summarize research information about women's addiction treatment and the therapeutic community (TC) model of residential care.

Substance Use in Women discusses the importance of scientific research on gender issues related to drug use. Topics addressed in the publication include research summaries on women's use of prescription medication, information on the effects of drug use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and scientific findings on sex differences in treatment.

Therapeutic Communities Research Report outlines the key components of the TC model, a long-term approach with a recovery orientation. The publication describes how treatment is provided in a TC and discusses the model's applicability to special populations such as women, adolescents, and individuals in the justice system.
