A recovery app developed by Sober Network, Inc., has received a first-place award in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA's) national Opioid Recovery App Challenge. The FlexDek MAT Edition smartphone app includes rewards for usage, and is designed to assist in reducing relapses that could lead to repeat treatment visits for outpatients receiving medication treatment for opioid dependence.

Harold Jonas, PhD, LMHC, is the founder and CEO of Sober Network, which offers the online directory of treatment and recovery resources and community site. Its FlexDek platform gives care managers tools for remote patient monitoring and data collection.

According to a news release from Sober Network, the contenders for the SAMHSA award were evaluated according to their innovation, practicality of implementation, and contributions to meeting patient needs. The first-place award comes with a $15,000 prize that will be used for further development and distribution of the app. The release version of FlexDek MAT Edition will be available in October at the annual conference of the American Assoiciation for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) in Baltimore.
