Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo has enlisted nationally prominent recovery advocate Tom Coderre to coordinate the state administration's response's to the opioid crisis. Coderre, who last spring joined the Altarum Institute as senior advisor to its Behavioral Health Technical Assistance Center, is a former Rhode Island state legislator and chief of staff to the state Senate president.

According to the governor's office, Coderre's work as a senior advisor on the governor's staff will focus largely on legislative strategy related to addiction issues.

Before joining Altarum in 2017, Coderre had served as senior advisor to the administrator at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
