Legal Action Center president Paul Samuels will be honored this summer with the 2016 Lisa Mojer-Torres Award from the national advocacy organization Faces & Voices of Recovery. Faces & Voices will host its annual America Honors Recovery awards dinner and gala on July 11 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
According to a news release from Faces & Voices, Samuels is being honored for more than three decades of contributions in areas such as protecting the civil rights and privacy of persons in recovery and developing innovative strategies to increase funding support for treatment and prevention.
Mojer-Torres was Faces & Voices' first board chair, and the organization states that the award named after her “honors a tenacious fighter who believed in the dignity and rights of every person. Lisa's inquiring and challenging mind offered new insights and by example, she encouraged us to stand up and speak out on behalf of all pathways to recovery, including the use of medications.”
