Kick off your 2013 NCAD experience with a trip to the beach!  Visit Sober Living by the Sea, on the beautiful sands of Newport Beach for an exclusive tour of the treatment center, a catered lunch, and a continuing education workshop that will provide insights into the psyche of the addict.

Narcissistic. Borderline. Psychopathic. Each of these names elicits a charged affective response. This workshop will provide a deeper understanding of these personality types and how each pertains to the addict or alcoholic.

Following a tour of the treatment center, Dr. Evan Miller will treat NCAD attendees to a CEU presentation about the psychodynamic understanding of addictive behaviors. He will explain why an understanding of client defensive structures and pattern recognition are important components for establishing a treatment plan, and examples of how this understanding provides a deeper knowledge of our clients' motivations, both conscious and unconscious.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Gain a basic understanding of borderline, psychopathic, and narcissistic personality styles.
  • Understand defensive structure in the addicted population.
  • Learn treatment implications for clients organized at various psychodynamic personality types.
