Alamo City Treatment Services / The Right Step
Steven Murphy is a licensed chemical dependency counselor who has been in the field since 1980. He has counseled adolescents and adults, in both outpatient and hospital settings. He previously owned Alamo Recovery Centers, Inc. and the Bexar County Treatment Coalition which contracted with Bexar County Adult Probation and the Texas Department Of Criminal Justice Parole Division to work with 250 clients per month from 1994 until 2001.
Presently, he is the executive director of Alamo City Treatment Services; and owner of The Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies-San Antonio, a small, private proprietary school to acquire the license for chemical dependency counseling. In 2008, he became affiliated with The Right Step/Spirit Lodge, and is currently the Program Coordinator for The Right Step-San Antonio, an outpatient chemical dependency facility.
He is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and an instructor for the Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies in San Antonio.
Executive Director, Men's Program
Greg Fabry is the Executive Director for the men’s program at Benchmark Recovery Center. In this role, he mentors clients, leads groups, and oversees the daily operations of the men’s program.
Greg began his career at Benchmark in 2010 as a Recovery Manager and has been a dedicated member of the Benchmark staff. He has extensive experience guiding both residents and their families towards recovery. Greg is a BBA candidate in management at Texas State University. He has also completed the academic coursework for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor accreditation.
Greg is an active member of the recovery community. His personal experience with and passion for the Twelve Steps contributes to the recovery culture found at BRC. His personal interests include playing basketball and cycling.
James Boone, M.D.
Dr. James Boone graduated from Baylor University in 1980 with a BS degree and then attended Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX until his graduation with honors in 1984. He did his internal medicine internship and residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and completed the program and his board certification in Internal Medicine in 1987.
He was involved in private practice of Internal Medicine with his family in the Pasadena, Texas area until he joined his brother in the full time practice of Addiction Medicine in 2004. He has been a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine since 2004 and is board certified in Addiction Medicine. He and Ruth have been married for many years and they have six children.
He is an avid fisherman and father and husband and is active in his church. He has a passion for helping persons with addiction experience the fullness of a drug and alcohol free life that is offered with active 12 Step recovery.
Ilana Zivkovich, LMSW, LCDC
Clinical Director & Private Practitioner
Ilana joined the Right Step & Spirit Lodge team in 2012, and has been in the role of Clinical Director at Spirit Lodge (holistic addiction treatment center for adults age 26 and up) since February 2013. In her role as Clinical Director, Ilana ensures that each client and family served at Spirit Lodge receives first-rate addiction treatment with an emphasis on treating the whole person and the whole system.
Prior to joining the organization, Ilana served as the Director of Clinical Development at Austin Recovery, a 200+ bed non-profit addiction treatment center in Austin. In that role Ilana developed programs to meet the needs of a diverse clientele with extensive psychiatric and medical comorbidites. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, she helped deliver evidence-based, clinically sophisticated treatment.
Ilana brings passion and dedication to her current work both as Spirit Lodge Clinical Director and as a private practitioner. Ilana has professional experience in chemical dependency treatment, grief and loss counseling, shame resiliency, dual diagnosis, crisis intervention, trauma, and experiential modalities – a multifaceted background that she uses to promote comprehensive and individualized care.
Ilana received her Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin, and obtained her Masters in Social Work from the same institution. Ilana has served as an honorary faculty member at the Texas A&M Health Science Center of Behavioral Medicine, and is a member of NASW (National Association of Social Workers).
Douglas J. Edwards, MBA
Publisher of Addiction Professional
Douglas J. Edwards is Publisher of Addiction Professional, having formerly served as editor in chief of Behavioral Healthcare and Addiction Professional. Edwards has been serving the addiction treatment community since 2000 in multiple editorial and marketing roles. Edwards will serve as moderator of the discussion.
