South Florida-based Destination Hope, Inc., announced to the industry this week that vice president of operations Alton Smith died of cancer on Aug. 19. Smith had more than 30 years of clinical and administrative experience in the field, and had post-graduate degrees in clinical psychology and counseling psychology.

A statement from the co-occurring disorders treatment program read in part that Smith “was a mentor who always brought out the best in people through encouragement and his words of wisdom.”
