Chicago – Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center has announced Dr. Lauren Kofod as its new staff psychiatrist.

Dr. Kofod is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, eating disorders and the mental health issues associated with medical illnesses.

She has always been interested in studying how the body works with the mind to affect emotional well-being, making her a perfect fit for Timberline Knolls’ treatment team.

“I am never bored hearing about each individual’s journey and struggles, and find that working with women allows me a level of understanding and connection that is deeply satisfying,” said Dr. Kofod. “I enjoy learning about each patient’s perspective and working together to formulate a treatment that is both sound and acceptable to the person's beliefs and point of view.”

Dr. Kofod truly values the team environment and mentality at TK. “Being on a team gives me the opportunity to consider my patients' needs from many different angles and have the chance for discussion with colleagues on the best treatment options,” she said. TK is known for using team approaches to treat residents while simultaneously educating the staff.

Prior to joining the staff at TK, Dr. Kofod worked in several different settings, including a cancer center, an outpatient center for eating disorders treatment, a psychiatric crisis center, as well as her own practice.

She completed undergraduate studies at Cornell University, and attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Her residency in adult psychiatry was at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and she participated in an additional fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at that same hospital.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the TK community,” she said, “and look forward to being a part of an excellent treatment center.”
