Shatterproof, the new national initiative designed to raise awareness and resources for addiction treatment and recovery, has announced its full complement of unique local events for 2014. The organization has moved away from the typical rally or charity walk by hosting fundraisers in which participants rappel from a tall building, usually a hotel.
The next such event is scheduled for March 19 in San Antonio. The full schedule of 20 events for the year can be accessed by clicking here.
“The Shatterproof Challenge brings people together to conquer their fears by rappelling for the cause of addiction,” Shatterproof founder and CEO Gary Mendell said in a news release. “These events allow families and friends to say to the 22 million Americans who struggle with addiction every day—'We care about you.'”
Mendell, a former hotel executive, met with addiction field leaders after the death of his 25-year-old son in 2011 and decided to leave his profession in the hope of establishing an entity that would emulate the success of some of the leading national health charities for other illnesses.
