The Heroes in Recovery movement has added New York City to its list of locations for its 6-kilometer run/walk events that educate communities about recovery and that support local treatment, recovery and advocacy organizations.

The inaugural event in New York City will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16, starting at the 103rd Street Promenade and proceeding on a scenic course through Riverside Park adjacent to the Hudson River. This will be the 15th event in the Heroes in Recovery series. Foundations Recovery Network established the Heroes in Recovery initiative.

Transcend Sober Living is serving as the presenting sponsor of the New York City 6K, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. The local beneficiary of this event is Xcel University, a mental health awareness organization targeting youths and founded by professional basketball star Metta World Peace.
