Addiction Professional has been honored with a Silver Award in the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors' (ASHPE's) annual awards competition. The award, in the Best Feature Article category, went to “Bring Sexual Misconduct Out of the Shadows,” the September/October 2014 issue cover story on how inappropriate sexual behavior by addiction counselors working in treatment centers goes under-reported and exposes facilities to numerous risks.

The article, written by contributing writer Alison Knopf, featured interviews with counselor credentialing authorities and insurance liability experts, who stated that most addiction treatment centers fail to report allegations of a clinical staff member's sexual misconduct to the proper credentialing agency. The report included accounts of actual incidents and offered treatment center administrators guidance on actions they can take to help prevent sexual misconduct from occurring.

Also winning awards in this year's ASHPE competition were Addiction Professional sister publications Long-Term Living, which won a Gold Award for Best Digital/Print Integration and a Silver Award for Best Blog, and Healthcare Informatics, which won a Silver Award for Best Special Report/Section.
