Before this year’s conference begins, let NCAD whisk you away to a private and peaceful Southern California neighborhood for a treatment center tour, lunch, and CEU workshop!

Anxiety and panic disorders are consistently major issues in the treatment of addiction in adults.  But how can we begin to approach the treatment of a teen with these afflictions, and how do alcohol and prescription drugs influence these disorders?

Following lunch and a tour of LA County’s Adolescent Growth, Dr. Manijeh Nikakhtar will discuss on the treatment of this special population, and how substance abuse can contribute to a client’s cycle of self-medication for anxiety and panic disorders. Participants in this special NCAD Treatment Center Tour will learn:

  • The role alcohol and prescription medications play in the short term treatment of symptoms;
  • To recognize these use trends in teen clients; and
  • How studying a teen’s brain functions through use of CT and SPECT scanning can provide insights into potential therapy approaches.

Adolescent Growth serves persons age 12-17 in residential, partial or IOP suffering from eating disorders/dual diagnosis.  Adolescent Growth has five facilities located in Southern California, all of which are accredited by the Joint Commission.
