Harm reduction merits place on trends list

I enjoyed your article on future directions for the field of substance use treatment (July/August 2009 issue). I thought you identified most of the trends correctly.

You asked for suggestions of trends that you might have missed. I think harm reduction should be on the list. At this point, from a worldwide perspective, it is one of the most creative and dynamic forces in our field. It is already playing an increasing role in treatment in our country-although sometimes without being formally identified as such.

In any case, thanks for producing such a stimulating magazine.
